The Science of Postformability

While standard High Pressure Laminates (HPL) are rigid and designed for flat surfaces, Postforming Laminates are manufactured using specially modified resins and specialized kraft papers. During the manufacturing process, the resin curing is carefully controlled. This allows the laminate to remain thermoformable for a specific period after it leaves the factory.

When heated to a precise temperature in a postforming machine, the laminate becomes pliable. It can then be smoothly bent and wrapped around the radiused edge of an MDF or particle board substrate without cracking, blistering, or losing its surface integrity. Once it cools, it regains its full rigidity and impact resistance, locking into its new curved shape permanently.
